Future pacing is a simple practice: you describe your desired life as if it is already true. Be creative and be detailed. It gives you something specific to move toward.
How to do it
- Pick a time, such as one year from now.
- Write in the present tense: “I wake up and…”
- Add details: where you are, who you are with, how you feel.
- Look for one small step that points in that direction.
Where it fits in the JFDI method
Future Pacing is step four of the five-step JFDI method: Mind Sweep, Affirmations, Gratitude, Future Pacing and Inspired Action. The final step turns the picture into next steps.
Keep it light
Skip the pressure to do it perfectly or every day. Do a few lines, miss a few weeks, then restart.
